A Look Back at Art Basel 2017
Basel, Switzerland.
It’s a beautiful city located on the Rhine River, home to some of the best museums in the world—Kunstmuseum Basel, Fondation Beyeler, and Schaulager, just to name a few. However, from June 15 through 18, the art scene in this city completely transformed: 291 galleries from 35 countries arrived, presenting Modern and contemporary artwork by over 4,000 unique artists. Art Basel occurs each year, but 2017 was exceptional. According to Art Basel’s Show Report, over 95,000 art lovers attended the fair. With so much impressive art to see, and so many enthusiastic collectors and connoisseurs there to see it, it can be quite a whirlwind!
As noted by Lévy Gorvy Founder and Co-owner Dominique Lévy:
We had our most successful Art Basel ever. The quality of the fair is astonishing and this year we felt that the caliber of the collectors, museum colleagues and patrons was not only of the highest order, but even more international than we have seen in past years.
We were delighted to see visitors from around the world at our booth; we always relish the opportunity to bring art and people together. The gallery featured a diverse array of paintings and sculptures by Vincenzo Agnetti, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Alberto Burri, Alexander Calder, Sergio Camargo, Enrico Castellani, Dan Colen, Yves Klein, Piero Manzoni, Pablo Picasso, Sigmar Polke, Carol Rama, Martial Raysse, Günther Uecker, and Zao Wou-Ki, among others. In particular, Jean-Michel Basquiat’s Baby Boom (1982) was a stand-out.
Thank you to everyone who was able to join us in Switzerland, and for everyone who followed along with us remotely (hello, Instagram!).
