Heather Powell | Irregular Grid Series .002

Hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Heather Powell moved to New York in 2003 to pursue her MFA at the School of Visual Arts with a focus on sculpture and creative writing. She has since become the recipient of several New York State Council on the Arts Individual and Community Arts grants and has been awarded residencies at Franconia Sculpture Park, Minnesota, and the Contemporary Artists Center at Woodside, New York. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Northeast, and she has held numerous visiting artist positions at universities including Alfred University, SUNY Cortland, and Binghamton University.

Powell has cultivated a dynamic career in the nonprofit sector that combines her passion and knowledge of art, education, and community through teaching, curating, and program development. In 2014 she organized Silence Unbound: The Artist’s Lexicon in the Making, a traveling exhibition of artist’s books supported by the Center for Book Arts, New York. She currently works with artist’s collections. As the mother of two brilliant babies, she continues to strive to integrate art and life by fostering creativity in children.
