Carol Rama's 100th Birthday

April 6, 2018

The celebration begins! April 18, 2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the great artist’s birth.

Born in 1918 in Turin, Rama began her artistic production in the mid-1930s, and continued until she was ninety years old. She died in Turin on September 24, 2015.

Did you know that Carol Rama was born on April 17, but always claimed that she was born on April 18 because she was superstitious and disliked the number 17? Thus, we celebrate on the 18th, along with the Carol Rama Archivio & Estate, which has organized a series of initiatives to be held in Torino and Milan.

A roundup of festivities…

Confronti 4 / Carol Rama e Carlo Mollino

This exhibition is dedicated to the recent acquisition by the Italian State of two important twentieth century works: Carol Rama’s large painting Pittura n. 718 (1954), and Drago da passeggio, a work on paper that architect Carlo Mollino gave Rama. Rama kept Mollino’s drawing hanging in her studio throughout her career. The exhibition also features other Rama works from private collections, along with a series of photographic images shot by Bepi Ghiotti inside the artists studio and home.

On view at Musei Reali Torino, February 2 through March 6, 2018
