Forrest Gander Wins Pulitzer Prize!
Forrest Gander, who contributed four poems to the Calder / Kelly exhibition catalogue, has won the 2019 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry! Gander has won for his volume Be With (New Directions, 2018), “a collection of elegies that grapple with sudden loss, and the difficulties of expressing grief and yearning for the departed.”
Born in the Mojave Desert, Gander grew up in Virginia, and has spent extended periods of time living in San Francisco, Dolores Hidalgo (Mexico), and Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Gander is the A.K. Seaver Professor of Literary Arts and Comparative Literature at Brown University, and has been honored as a U.S. Artists Rockefeller fellow, and as the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Guggenheim, Howard, Witter Bynner and Whiting foundations.
Congratulations, Forrest!
