Art Basel Miami Beach
At Art Basel Miami Beach 2018, Lévy Gorvy will present RADIANT NEW, a curated presentation that pays homage to the radical spirit of the artists who defined New York’s cultural landscape during the late 1970s and early ’80s. RADIANT NEW brings together fearless and bold works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol, and Tom Wesselmann, among others.
Returning to the era of the so-called culture wars, RADIANT NEW revisits a crucial period in the history of American art. As ascendant postmodernism and identity politics clashed with political conservatism, the AIDS crisis escalated, and rampant consumerism aggravated growing social inequality. New York was the crucible where all of this came together: in the midst of chaos and excess, artists created gripping works that are as potent now as they were when they emerged.
